2-dimensional wall hanging in the form of a mask showing a human face with an extremely elongated head, the latter decorated with shallowly carved geometric designs (crescents and swirling lines) that are painted red or white against a black background; Actual face is also painted black but otherwise undecorated, except for paired red lines along the sides and chin and a red mouth; Eyes are deeply carved and were probably intended to be inset with cowrie or other shells, but there is no evidence that they were, in fact, even inlaid; Small nail hole is located at top of carving for hanging it on the wall. |
