Description 3-dimensional carving depicting a yam storage house, where yams are stored for later use throughout the year; The house consists of a low platform on which logs are stacked one atop the other to form open-air platforms on which the actual yams are stored, allowing for air flow, all surmounted by a peaked and thatched roof; Because of the importance of yams (staple food, currency, sexual connotations, and more) yam storage houses are often more elaborately decorated than houses in which people live; Carving is decorated with small round pieces of abalone shell around the base, on outer side of each long log, and along the base of the roof.
