Description | Deep round bowl supported on four cylindrical legs, all carved from a single piece of wood, similar in form to kava bowls from South Pacific islands; Walls of bowl are very thick and form a wide, flat rim; Both interior and exterior of bowl are stained black, and entire rim is carved with small geometric shapes, revealing the natural color of the underlying wood; Design band is broken into four panels, separated by a rectangle that is inlaid with a small triangular piece of white abalone shell. | |
