Description Mortar and pestle used to prepare betel nuts for chewing; Cylindrical mortar is carved from single piece of wood, with the interior hollowed out for approx. half its total length; Exterior is carved in low relief with two geometric bands encircling the upper 2/3 and a series of stacked ridges covering the lower 1/3; Cylindrical pestle is also carved from a single piece of wood, tapering to a blunt point at its distal end; Proximal end is carved in low relief in the form of a stylized human who wears an elaborate hat or hairstyle.
