Description | A: Small slit drum carved from a single lightweight log that has been partially hollowed out from the top; One end of the log has been carved in the form of a crocodile head, while the opposite end has a stump-like projection to serve as a handle; Entire exterior and upper edges around interior are painted black, and then both sides of the drum’s exterior are carved with interlocking scroll designs and crescent shapes, all arranged in two horizontal panels; Small crescent shapes are also carved on sides of crocodile’s head; Carved designs are painted with earth pigments in colors of white, salmon, or pale orange; B: Cylindrical drumstick carved from a single stick that has been stripped of its bark; Stick tapers in diameter toward proximal end, then abruptly expands and tapers again; Mid-section of drum stick is stained pale red. | |
