Description | Canoe paddle carved from single piece of sago palm wood; Cylindrical handle accounts for slightly less than half the total length and is undecorated except for proximal end which has a circular perforation and several lateral notches; Distal end of handle greatly expands in width to form the relatively flat, leaf-shaped blade of the paddle, which is carved on both faces in low relief with a face, accentuated by numerous geometric shapes above and below the face. | |
