Description | Deep rectangular basket with flat base, vertical sides, and wide oval mouth; Basket is essentially made from a single sheet of birch bark that has been trimmed and folded to shape, with the overlapping joins lashed together with willow roots; Natural white exterior of the bark faces outward; Rim is reinforced with single wooden rod that is lashed to the sides with a coil-wrapping of willow roots; Design is woven of dyed red and blue bird (goose?) quills that are woven into the coiled rim in a ribbon beading technique at the four cardinal directions. | |
