Description Deep round basket with a slightly pointed base and vertical sides; Basket is woven primarily in plain spaced twining, using rye grass stems as the primary warp and weft material; Single row at juncture of base and side and several rows near rim are woven in 3-strand twining technique; Warps are paired throughout basket and one warp from each pair is alternately diverted to the left or right in the succeeding row of twining; On the sides of the basket groups of 3 pairs of 2-strand plied warps are also added at regular intervals, resulting in vertical stripes in the finished texture; Designs consist of three parallel bands near the rim, woven in false embroidery or overlay; Middle band consists of alternating blocks of false embroidered light blue silk and white seal gut, bordered above and below by single row that incorporates overlay of red wool yarn; Upper and lower design bands consist of alternating blocks of false embroidered red wool yarn and white seal gut, bordered above and below by single row of overlay of green wool yarn; Final row of twining along rim is woven of off-white wool yarn.
