Description | Deep, cylindrical basket with flat base and vertical sides; Basket is woven entirely in closed plain twining, with 3 bands of exposed, crossed warps on the sides; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Designs around mid-section of basket are woven of worsted wool yarn and white seal gut in false embroidery technique and consist of three bands of small red or blue crosses with white centers, separated by parallel straight lines in plain brown, brown and red, or brown and blue; Matching round and slightly domed lid with knob handle is woven in same technique as basket with 7 rows of exposed, crossed warps on knob and shoulders of lid; Designs on lid are similar to those o basket; Knob handle contains small stone rattle. | |
