Man's shield constructed from large piece of hide cut to oval shape and molded while wet into concave-convex shape; Two wooden strips are lashed with leather lacings along outer edges and overlap at ends; Heavy wooden handle in shape of recurved bow extends down center of shield on reverse and is secured with single continuous leather lacing that is looped through to front of shield at regular intervals; Center of shield is reinforced on reverse with separate piece of hide; Design field on front of shield is divided down center by row of concentric diamond shapes in rust brown, black, and white on white background, all flanked by large rust brown crescent shape on one side and similar black shape on other side; Large white semi-circle along each edge completes design. |
