Description | Small round basket with flat base and deep, vertical sides, woven in coiled technique over bundle foundation; Warp material is unidentified grass stems and primary weft material is split willow shoots; Designs are woven of black devil's claw pods and consists of black circle in center of base, encircled by two concentric bands in which the weft fibers alternate between willow and devil's claw; On the sides of the basket the designs include a single band along the lower edge in which the weft fibers alternate between willow and devil's claw, 5 diagonal columns of paired black rectangles that are stacked in a checkerboard pattern and rise from the base to the rim, and finally a solid black rim coil. | |
