Description | Deep round basket with square base and cylindrical sides that flare outward very slightly to a wide, round mouth; Basket is woven entirely in simple twining technique, except for single row of plain twining just below the rim; Warp fibers are bent over at rim and woven in a diagonal stitch to bind them to a coil-wrapped reinforcing bundle around interior of rim; Warp and weft material is cedar bark slats; Designs are woven of dyed black cedar bark slats and consist of 6 checkerboard bands (4 wide and 2 single rows) that encircle the sides of the basket. | |
