Description | Deep round basket with flat base and slightly flaring sides; Center of base and final few rows immediately below rim are woven in plain twining, and remainder of basket is woven in spaced plain twining over diagonally crossed warps; Direction of warps is reversed several times; Warp fibers are bent over at rim and incorporated into a coil-wrapped bundle; Warp material is either spruce or cedar splints; Weft material is either spruce or cedar roots; Designs are woven of dyed black weft fibers and consist of 3 parallel bands (1 on the base and 2 on the sides) that encircle the basket; Single loop handle made from doubled length of 3-ply weft fiber is attached to rim (no evidence of second handle on opposite rim). | |
