Description Deep cylindrical basket with conical base, woven entirely in open plain twining technique; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Wefts are woven over multiple parallel warps on base, but on the sides the warps are paired, with the fibers from each pair being diverted either to the left or right in each succeeding row of twining; In two areas on the sides there are also 4 plied or twisted warps added for additional strength and to better secure the handle; Warps are gathered and braided along rim to form final row and then incorporated into a very heavy looped braid connected at regular intervals around rim; End of braid extends approx. 86 cm beyond one complete revolution; Designs on basket are woven of worsted wool yarn (red and black) and white seal gut and consist 3 band of floating rectangles center row in black and white, flanked above and below by band in red and white) bordered above and below by straight black framing line; Lower framing line located approx. 6 cm below rim.
