Description | Conical double weave utilitarian hat with truncated, concave top (or base); Warp and weft material is cedar bark; Basket start of both interior and exterior layers consists of wide cedar bark slats that are plaited; Hat is woven primarily in plain twining technique on exterior with five rows of 3-strand twining along the junction of the base and sides, at regular intervals on the sides, and along the rim, serving both a structural and decorative function; Inner layer of hat is woven entirely in plain twining; Interior also includes encircling headband woven in simple plaiting technique and positioned at midlevel height. | |
