Materials Spruce (Picea sp.) roots; Aniline dyes
Description Round basket with flat base and slightly flaring sides, woven entirely in plain twining technique except for single rows of 3-strand twining at juncture of base and sides and along rim; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Designs are woven of dyed black and red spruce roots and consist of 2 concentric bands on the base and 8 parallel bands that encircle the sides, alternating in color between black and red and all woven in plain twining technique; In red bands both weft fibers are dyed, while in blue bands only 1 of the 2 wefts is dyed, so that in some bands the dyed fibers in successive rows align vertically and in others they align diagonally; Both rows of 3-strand twining also combine dyed red and undyed spruce root fibers.
