Description | Small round basket with flat base, vertical sides, and recessed rim, and corresponding round flat-topped lid with very low sides; Warp material throughout basket and lid is cedar bark; Base of basket is woven in plain twined technique with single row of 3-strand twining at outermost edge, using rye grass stems as the weft; Sides of basket and entire lid are woven in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single cedar bark slat encircles top of basket and forms recessed rim, over which the warps are bent and bound into final row of twining; Designs on basket and lid are woven of dyed bear grass leaves and consist of pair of dark blue lines encircling lower sides of basket, 3 dark blue "Z" motifs with yellow centers around upper sides of basket, pair of dark blue concentric circles and 2 segmented concentric circles with yellow interior on top of lid, and pair of dark blue bands along sides of lid. | |
