Description | Round basket with flat base, vertical sides, and recessed rim, and corresponding flat-topped lid with low sides that fit over the basket's rim; Warp material throughout basket and lid is cedar bark; Base of basket is primarily woven in simple plaiting technique, using cedar bark splints as both warp and weft; Outer portion of base and single row down center are woven in plain twining, using rye grass stems as the weft; Sides of basket are woven in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single cedar bark splint encircles top of basket and formed recessed rim, over which the warps are bent and bound into the final row of twining; Twining immediately above and below rim splint is plain twining, using cedar bark as the weft; Lid is entirely woven in wrapped twining technique; All designs are woven of dyed bear grass leaves and include pair of parallel dark blue bands along lower sides of basket, wide purple and dark blue band with serrated edged around basket's mid-section, and series of concentric bands in colors of green, magenta, dark blue, purple, and blue-green on top and sides of lid, all on straw colored background. | |
