Materials Cedar (Cedrus sp.) bark; Rye grass (Elymus sp.) stems; Bear grass (Xerophyllum tenax) leaves; Aniline dyes
Description Small round basket with flat base, vertical sides, and recessed rim, and corresponding round lid with domed top and knob handle and low sides that fit over basket's rim; Warp material throughout basket and lid is cedar bark; Basket start in center of base is woven in simple plaiting, using cedar bark splints as both warp and weft; Most of the base is woven in plain twining technique, except for single row around outer edge which is 3-strand twining, using rye grass stems as the weft; Sides of basket and entire lid are woven in wrapped twining, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single cedar bark splint encircles top of basket and forms recessed rim, over which the warps are bent and bound into the final final row of twining (2 rows of twining above rim splint are plain twining); All designs are woven of dyed bear grass leaves on straw-colored background and include pair of narrow black bands around lower sides of basket, black zigzag band on yellow background around basket's mid-section, black top of knob handle on lid, encircled by yellow band edged in black and band of alternating black and yellow triangles on top of lid, and pair of black bands along sides of lid.
