Description | Deep round basket with flat base, slightly rounded and flaring sides, high and wide shoulder, and very short neck; Corresponding round lid with short lip is relatively flat with round knob handle with constricted base; Both basket and lid are woven in coiled technique over bundle foundation, using smaller coils and narrower weft material than is typical of traditional Yup'ik coiled basketry; Warp and weft material is beach grass; Decorative cross motifs are embroidered in wool yarn (black, red, and green) are arranged in horizontal bands around sides and shoulder of basket and around center of lid. | |
