Description | Oval basket whose flat base is made from sheet of birch bark and whose slightly rounded sides are woven of sweetgrass bundles that are stitched together in a widely spaced coiling technique, using black thread as the weft fiber; Wide openwork band with one sweetgrass bundle woven in a zigzag pattern encircles upper side of basket; Floral pattern in natural and dyed (green, purple, and chartreuse) porcupine quills is woven on interior base; Lip of basket incorporates single row of quills in colors of red, yellow, and purple. | |
