Description Round sewing basket with flat base, very slightly rounded sides, and wide round mouth, along with corresponding round flat-topped lid with low sides and braided handle; Basket and lid are woven primarily in wicker technique; Warp material is dyed ash splints and primary weft material is sweetgrass; Base of basket consists of equal-sized dyed green ash splints that are crossed in the center and arranged like spokes of a wheel, but are unbound except around the perimeter of the base where several rows of narrow ash splints are woven in wicker technique; Sides of basket are woven in wicker technique, using braided sweetgrass as the weft; Single wide dyed green ash splint is woven in just below rim; Rim is reinforced on exterior with narrow dyed green ash splint and inside by unpeeled, split wooden rod, both of which are bound together with widely spaced dyed green ash weft; Lid is woven similarly to basket, except warp splints are very narrow at their centers, and half of the lid is woven with single sweetgrass stems and half with braided sweetgrass stems; Rim of lid is reinforced on exterior with several sweetgrass stems and on interior with ash splint, the two bound together with narrow ash splint fiber; Handle of braided sweetgrass is secured to top of lid.
