Materials Tule or bulrush (Scirpus acutus) stems; Bear grass (Xerophyllum tenax); Aniline dyes
Description Small round basket with flat base and vertical sides, woven primarily in wrapped twining technique (on sides), with plain twining on base and single row of 3-strand twining near juncture of base and sides; Warp material and primary weft material is probably tule stems; Secondary weft material is undyed bear grass leaves; Warps are bent over at rim and incorporated into a wrapped coil; Designs are woven of dyed bear grass leaves and consist of 2 concentric deep yellow bands on base, woven in half-twist overlay; Row of 3-strand twining on base includes dyed purple and deep yellow bear grass wefts; Purple terraced zigzag band on deep yellow background encircles mid-section and band of small purple geometric motifs is located just below rim; Short coil-wrapped carrying handle is attached to rim at two points opposite each other.
