Description | Rectangular basket with flat base and vertical sides rising to a wide, ovoid mouth; Basket is essentially made from a single sheet of birch bark that has been trimmed and folded to shape, with the overlapping joins on the side lashed together with sinew; Separate bark strip is positioned on exterior of rim at either end of basket and secured with reinforcing rod that encircles rim and which is coil-wrapped with willow roots; Red wool yarn and blue (or green?) hemp fiber are threaded though the coil wrappings along rim, parallel to each other, in ribbon beading technique. | |
