Description | Deep round basket with flat base, vertical sides, and recessed rim, with corresponding round, flat-topped lid with low sides that fit over the basket's rim; Warp material is cedar bark; Center of base is woven in simple plaiting technique, using cedar bark splints as both warp and weft; Remainder of basket and entire lid are woven in wrapped twining technique using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single cedar bark splint encircles the top of the basket, forming the recessed rim, over which the warp fibers are bent and bound into the final row of twining; All designs are woven of dyed bear grass leaves and include single row of alternating green and straw-colored fibers along base of sides; Composite purple and yellow bands around upper and lower sides, orange zigzag band on dark blue background around mid-section of sides; Designs on lid include dark blue center, encircled by composite red, yellow, and dark blue bands both in center and around perimeter, as well as orange zigzag band on dark blue background on top of lid. | |
