Description | Round basket with flat base, vertical sides, and inward-sloping rim, woven entirely in single rod coiling technique with closely spaced narrow wefts; Basket start on base is round flat ivory disk with drilled holes around its perimeter; Warp and weft material is split baleen strips; Corresponding round lid is very shallowly peaked in cross-section and has a short lip inside that fits inside the mouth of the basket; Start of lid is a round flat ivory disk, similar to the basket, except that it also has a short conical knob handle on the exterior. | |
