Description | Long, rectangular piece of tapa cloth made from strip of mulberry bark that has been beaten into a thin sheet; Design field on front of cloth is divided into seven contiguous rectangular panels, each subdivided into smaller triangular panels and parallelograms, which are then painted with dots, zigzags, chevrons, and other geometric units; Dark brown framing line extends around all four sides of cloth; Reverse side of cloth is marked with series of evenly spaced dark brown parallel lines extending across the width of the piece; All four edges of the cloth have been trimmed to form decorative fringe, consisting of a wide leaf-shaped fringe alternating with 3 or 4 narrow straight-edged fringes. | |
