| Description | Round olla-shaped jar with flat, small diameter base, sides that flare upward to a high rounded shoulder, then curve inward before rising to form a short neck, and a wide mouth; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and covered with red slip; Wide band on exterior extending from rim down to just above underbody is slipped white and its upper and lower limits are edged in black; Band of contiguous red triangles outlined in black encircles rim; Geometric motif consisting of two large "E" shapes (1 pointing left, 1 pointing right) with open triangle between them is repeated 4 times around mid-section of jar; Jar is unsigned, but was possibly made by Eudora Montoya as a demonstration piece for Dr. Florence Hawley Ellis, a noted archaeologist in New Mexico who supported Montoya's pottery making over a period of many years. | |
