Description | Deep round basket with flat base and slightly flared, vertical sides with pair of rectangular cutout handles on upper sides; Basket and corresponding flat lid with low sides that fit over rim of basket are both woven in coiling technique over bundle foundation; Warp material is willow shoots and the primary weft material is peeled and split willow shoots; Designs on basket and lid are woven of aniline dyed willow and include 4 large concentric red and green diamonds on sides of basket, alternating with pairs of smaller concentric terraced diamonds in red and green in intervening spaces; Designs on lid include red and green concentric bands on top and band of terraced red and green triangles around sides; Basket was likely woven for sale as clothes hamper. | |
