Description | A: Oval bowl with flat base and vertical sides; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and coated with a slip, and exterior is highly burnished; Design band on exterior sides is painted in matte black slip and includes paired stack of 3 triangles each on each long side, 4 parallel vertical lines at each short end, and upper and lower framing lines around rim and base; Possible incised signature on base is completely illegible; B: Flat oval lid with single loop handle in center; Exterior is scraped smooth, coated with a slip and highly burnished; Interior appears to have had lip but is now ground smooth; Group of 3 contiguous elongated triangles at ends of lid and semicircle with pendant dots on either side of handle are painted in matte black slip; Signature “Florence†is very, very lightly incised on base, but very difficult to read. Florence Aguilar Naranjo is the daughter of Rosalie Simbola Aguilar and Joe Aguilar [José Angeles Aguilar] and the sister of Joe Aguilar (Jose Vincente Aguilar) and Alfred Aguilar, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection. | |
