Description | Tall round vase with flat base and slightly curved walls that rise steeply almost to rim, then curve inward to wide mouth; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth; Exterior is also covered with dark rust brown slip and highly burnished; Painted design bands encircle upper and lower exterior sides; Lower band is divided into 4 panels, each containing asymmetrical gray terraced triangle within larger tan triangle and row of gray triangles pendant from upper framing line, all outlined in a flesh tone; Upper design band includes a continuous flesh-toned rectilinear fret, framed above and below by scalloped band in gray, tan, and flesh tones; "Catherine" is written in pencil on base. | |
