Description | Deep round jar with flat base, flaring lower sides, midlevel shoulder, inward sloping upper sides, and wide mouth; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and coated with a slip; Exterior sides and rim are highly burnished; Design band around upper sides is divided into 4 panels, each containing a diagonal line of 4 stacked triangles (kiva steps design) and series of 3 parallel diagonal lines across lower right corner, all painted in matte black slip; Jar is reduction fired to black-on-black color; Signature "Blue Corn San Ildefonso Pueblo" is incised in script on base. | |
