Description | Round jar with flat base and rounded sides that expand outward at mid-section, then curve inward toward rim; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and coated with a slip; exterior sides and rim are highly burnished; Design band that encircles upper sides just below rim includes wide line with lower scalloped edge, bordered above by straight line and below by scalloped line; Jar is reduction fired to black-on-black color; Barely discernible signature "Florence San Ildefonso" is very lightly incised or written in pencil in script on base. Florence Aguilar Naranjo is the daughter of Rosalie Simbola Aguilar and Joe Aguilar [José Angeles Aguilar] and the sister of Joe Aguilar (Jose Vincente Aguilar) and Alfred Aguilar, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection. | |
