Description | Very shallow round bowl with flat base and widely flared sides; Interior and exterior are scraped very smooth and highly burnished; Designs on interior are painted in matte gray slip and include cross-hatched triangle in center with three arms extending out to rim where each encircles a cross-hatched oval shape and then terminates in a hatch-lined triangle with a scalloped end, possibly representing a stylized wing motif; Series of 3 parallel lines encircles interior rim; Exterior base is also painted in matte gray slip, apparently over signature "Marie + Julian" making the off-center and already very lightly incised signature extremely difficult to discern; Bowl is reduction fired to black-on-black color. | |
