Description A: Square box with flat base and vertical sides; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth, coated with a slip, and exterior is highly burnished; Designs painted in matte black slip on lower sides consist of paired terraced triangles (kiva steps design) on two sides and series of 3 contiguous elongated triangles on other two sides; Signature "Rayita" with lightning design is incised in printed lettering on base; B: Flat square lid with rectangular knob on upper surface and pair of linear lips on underside; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and exterior is also highly burnished; Painted designs on exterior include pair of triangles on either side of handle; lid is unsigned. Rayita Gonzales is the sister-in-law of Juanita Wo-peen Gonzales, whose work is also represented in the CAS pottery collection.
