Description | Round bowl with flat base, rounded sides, and inward-curving rim; Exterior sides of bowl are contoured with series of very low and undulating vertical ridges; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and coated with a slip; Rim and exterior sides are highly burnished; Bowl is reduction fired to glossy black color; Signature "Legoria Sta. Clara Pueblo" is lightly incised in script on base. Legoria Tafoya is the mother of Celes Tafoya, whose pottery is also represented in the CAS pottery collection, and the sister of Pablita Velarde, whose pottery and paintings are represented in the CAS pottery and painting collections, respectively. | |
