Lamp base made in the form of an inverted jar; Flanged base supports flaring sides that rise to a rounded shoulder and stepped, lid-like top; Center hole in top is for placement of center lamp pole and hole on side near base is for electrical cord; Exterior is scraped very smooth and polished; Parrot motif is painted twice on sides in red and black, alternating with black geometric design; Black feather motif is painted twice on top, encircling center hole; Artist’s hallmark of a frog is painted in black on base. Paqua Naha was the mother of Joy Navasie (second Frog Woman), the grandmother of Natelle Navasie Curtis, the great-grandmother of Harrison Jim, Jr., the mother-in-law of Helen Naha (Feather Woman), and the grandmother of Sylvia Naha, all of whose work are represented in the CAS pottery collection. |
