Description Round jar with flat base and rounded sides that curve inward at the rim; Interior and exterior are scraped very smooth and coated with a slip; Exterior and rim are highly burnished, but otherwise undecorated; Jar is reduction fired to glossy black color; Signature "Marie + Santana" is incised in script on base. Santana Martinez is the wife of Adam Martinez and the daughter-in-law of Maria and Julian Martinez, all of whose pottery is represented in the CAS pottery collection; Santana Martinez is the sister of Awa Tsireh, whose paintings are represented in the CAS painting collection.
