Description | Small, flat rectangular pouch woven in 2-strand plain twining technique; Warp material is hemp and primary weft material is hop twine; Back panel of pouch extends above rim to form triangular tab that down over the front to form a flap and is secured with short leather thong threaded through point of tab and another one threaded through upper side of pouch; Designs are woven in false embroidery technique in wool yarn and include parallel yellow and blue zigzag bands, both edged in red and both continuing around both front and back sides of pouch; Fold-over flap is embroidered with alternating green and red bands; Segmented band in pale green wool and undyed corn husk frames bottom edge on front face only; Background areas on front and back of pouch (not including fold-over flap) are woven of undyed corn husk in a false embroidery technique; Third leather thong is threaded through back of pouch, probably to tie pouch to belt. | |
