3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Wuyak-taiowa (Broad-faced Katsina) (aka, Wuyak-kuita (Broad-head Katsina) who appears during the Bean Dance to orchestrate the procession of katsinam and dancers into the plaza; Figure wears full head mask with black face painted with multi-colored triangles, bulging eyes, and long black beard; Back of mask drapes down over the shoulders; Face is framed by fan of 16 individually carved eagle plumes; Figure's body is painted black and he wears snake dance kilt and brown leggings and moccasins; He carries short wooden sword in right hand, but is usually shown carrying yucca whips in both hands. |
