Description | Square basket with flat base and vertical sides rising to a wide, nearly round mouth; Woven entirely in plaiting technique (3/3) and in double weave; Warp and weft material are equal-sized split cane shoots; Warp and weft fibers are bent out and down at rim and then weaving is resumed to form exterior layer of basket; Design consists of alternating blocks of light and dark colors accomplished by combining natural tan cane strips with walnut-dyed black strips and bloodroot-dyed orange strips, which appears to divide interior base into triangular quadrants that are overlaid by a pattern of concentric squares. | |
