Description | Painting on white paper entitled "Cutting Broom Grass" depicting pueblo man shown in left profile and kneeling while cutting bunches of grass with a sickle; Situated along a flat horizon line are a prickly pear cactus, several bunches of grass, a stylized vine with pink flower, a very stylized tree with wing-like foliage and a gray squirrel at top, and a yucca plant; Stylized cloud with falling rain is represented overhead by 3 overlapping crescent lines; Signature "Ben Quintana" is printed in blue paint in lower right corner; "Cutting Broom Grass, Ben Quintana, Cochiti Pueblo, ($) 1.50, Age 10" is handwritten in pencil on reverse; "The Studio, U.S. Indian School, Santa Fe, New Mexico" is imprinted on reverse. | |
