Description | Painting on white paper designed as Christmas card entitled "Nup 'Apo" (Christmas month, literally "Ashes Fire Moon"); Abbreviated title "Nu Pa" is painted in red, green, and yellow gothic letters on front of card with sketch of pueblo along bottom; Painting inside card shows human figure sprinkling water from jar onto corn plant; Water also falls from cloud overhead and lightning bolt extends from sky to earth; Row of animal prints extends along bottom; Signature "Suwa '60" is printed in lower right corner; Hand written Christmas message from Joe Aguilar to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Elkus appears opposite painting. Joe Aguilar (Jose Vincente Aguilar) is the son of Rosalie Simbola Aguilar and Joe Aguilar [José Angeles Aguilar] and the brother of Florence Aguilar Naranjo and Alfred Aguilar, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection. | |
