| Description | Painting entitled "San Ildefonso Corn Dance", showing 12 male and 12 female dancers who extend from upper right to lower left corner, then turn toward lower center; Men wear embroidered kilts and white sashes, and their bodies (except faces) are painted gray; Females wear one-shoulder black dresses and turquoise-colored tabletas; Lead male in coral-colored shirt carries embroidered standard; 5 Koshare clowns with bodies painted with gray and white stripes accompany dancers; Chorus of 7 male singers and 1 drummer are shown at right; Church interior is shown in upper left, with several women and men outside; Signature "Gilbert Atencio 60" is printed in black in upper right corner. Gilbert Atencio was the son of Isabel Montoya Atencio, the brother of Helen Gutierrez, and the nephew of sisters Desideria Montoya Sanchez and Maria Martinez, all of whose work is also represented in the CAS collection. | |
