Materials Rye grass (Elymus sp.) stems; Silk thread
Description Cylindrical basket with flat base and vertical sides, woven primarily in closed plain twining, with single row of 3-strand twining at junction of base and sides and numerous rows of open plain twining (with exposed, crossed warps) on base; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Designs on sides of basket are woven of silk thread in false embroidery technique and include abstract floral motif repeated 3 times in various colors (red, blue, lavender, green, yellow), between upper and lower red rectilinear meander framing lines; Matching lid is woven in same technique as basket, including row of 3-strand twining at juncture of side and shoulder; Lid also has short knob handle on wide stem; Designs on lid include red center encircled by concentric bands of small triangles in blue, red, and green and straight red band along edge of knob, and red rectilinear meander band near outer edge of shoulder.
