Description | Very large and deep rectangular berry gathering basket with flat base and flaring sides; Base is woven in plain plaiting technique and sides are woven in coiled technique; Warp material is cedar splints and primary weft material is cedar roots; Designs are woven in imbrication technique, using undyed reed stems and both natural red and mud-dyed black cherry bark; Designs on sides and ends consist of large composite zigzags woven of all three materials, with vertical bars at the sides and below that are woven of undyed reeds and dyed black cherry bark; Single band of dyed black cherry bark is woven in ribbon beading technique along exterior of final rim coil; 6 cotton string and other rope fiber loops remain along the upper sides and ends (just below rim) and additional holes indicate original position of additional carrying loops. | |
