Description | Story board fashioned from a long section of walrus tusk that has been carefully cut to a thin, rectangular shape; Each face of the story board is divided into two parallel registers that run the entire length of the board; Each register is filled with a variety of scrimshaw designs; Lightly incised and inked figures include men in sleds pulled by reindeer and dogs, hunting scenes, reindeer roundups, men in boats, and various land and water animals and birds shown individually or in groups, sometimes as prey and sometimes as predator; Only one large animal (a wolf or a dog) shown in the center on one face of the board breaches the the line separating the registers. | |
