Description Jar-shaped basket with narrow flat base, flaring lower body that expands to maximum diameter at its mid-section, then tapers gradually and rises to a short cylindrical neck; Basket is woven in an open coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp and weft material is probably sumac shoots; Pair of braided light colored (horsehair?) fiber handles are positioned opposite each other on the shoulder; Entire basket is coated inside and outside with rust colored piñon pine pitch.
