Description | Unfinished oval basket with flat base and flaring sides, woven in coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp material is split cattail stems and primary weft material is peeled and split willow shoots; Designs are woven of dyed red peeled and split willow shoots and black devil's claw pods; Completed portion of design consists of a single motif made up of a red terraced line outlined in black, with additional horizontal black lines extending to the right and then rising vertically; Entire motif is repeated 8 times around sides of basket; Portion of rim bundle that has not yet been coil-wrapped is secured to succeeding coil with 7 loops of thin copper wire. | |
