Description | Fishing lure for catching bonito, in the form of an elongated piece of shell that has been cut from a larger pearl oyster shell and has a squared off lower end and tapers to a point on its upper end; Lateral edges have been carefully shaped and ground smooth; Single hole has been drilled through upper end to provide for attaching lure to a fishing line. NOTE: Original accession entry describes this as a bonito lure, but it is more likely only the shaft to a lure and is lacking an attached hook. (See CAS 0458-0120 for a completed example.) | |
